Time to Consider that Links Matter Less for SEO?

Time to Consider that Links Matter Less for SEO?

There may be evidence that links still matter but matter less. If so, then this is how it may change how you build links and rank websites.

Why Internal Links Are Important For Your SEO [Tea Time SEO]

Here’s the exact process:

First, fire up your link-building tool of choice, like Ahrefs or SEMRush. Next, find the pages on your site with the MOST link authority and use those posts to help strengthen your new ones.

Another feature I like using is one called Gliffy. If you’re a visual person then It’s great for mapping out your site so that you can get a big picture view of how your websites linked together and it’ll show you how to compartmentalize your content and then silo it down.

Google Search Console has an AWESOME feature called: “links”. Where you can actually see how your sites are linked together. Hardly anyone uses or talks about this which is crazy to me.

There’s also another plugin that you should download called Yet Another Related Posts Plugin (YARPP) which is going to display pages, posts, and custom post types related to the current entry, introducing your readers to other relevant content on your site.

So go ahead and start linking up your site!

Why Contextual Links Matter For SEO | WP Learning Lab

A contextual link is a link that is within your article. It usually has anchor text instead of a plain URL.

These links can be used to interlink content on your website or link out to other websites.

As far as SEO goes, Google links to see you interlink to related content on your site and it likes to see you link to related authority sites.

You can add a nofollow tag these contextual links. There’s a big debate in SEO is about whether to use nofollow or not. Here’s the skinny on the debate.

For every page that Google encounters it calculates a Page Rank. The higher the Page Rank the more ranking power that page has.

If you can get a ‘follow’ link from a high PR page you can rank almost any page on your website on the first page very quickly. However, if that same link is set to ‘nofollow’ then it has very little effect on your rankings.

What happens is that using ‘follow’ shares your page’s Page Rank with the page you’re linking to. If you use ‘nofollow’ then no Page Rank is shared.

The debate is about which one is better: horde your Page Rank or share it.

Google wants it to the be shared, so they like to see all your links WITHOUT the nofollow attribute.

Also, the majority of websites have a Page Rank of zero, so they’re not sharing any Page Rank when they link out.

Which one you use is up to you, but at the moment I choose to use only ‘follow’ links. I may change my mind if the google algorithm changes.
